    Hugh Kelly, Ph.D., CRE®

    Real Estate Economics

    Hugh heads his own consulting practice, Hugh F. Kelly Real Estate Economics, which serves the private sector, governmental organizations, and not‐for‐profit agencies. Hugh served as the Board Chair of the Counselors of Real Estate in 2014, and in November 2019 received the CRE’s highest honor, the Landauer/White Award for his professional achievements and for his civic and non-profit community work. Hugh is now chair of the Counselors’ Economists Advisory Council. He served six years as Board President of the affordable housing agency of Brooklyn/Queens Catholic Charities, and is presently a vice-chair of boards for corporations holding and managing the real property assets of the Brooklyn diocese. Hugh’s book 24-Hour Cities: Real Investment Performance, Not Just Promises was published by Routledge, and won the Gold Award for books from the National Association of Real Estate Editors in 2017. He is co-author of a forthcoming textbook on Real Estate Capital Markets (Cognella), and is working on a book-length project on the subject of “Transcending Tribalism”. Hugh was the lead author of Emerging Trends in Real Estate from 2015 to 2020, and of Integra Realty Resources Viewpoint from 2017 to the present. His columns on economics and real estate appear regularly in Commercial Property Executive and is contributing a semiannual Economic Perspective article to The Appraisal Journal. He publishes regularly in real estate academic journals, as well as in philosophy. He was recently appointed to the board of a philosophical association, the Karl Jaspers Society of North America. Kelly earned his B.A. in philosophy (magna cum laude) from Cathedral College (Douglaston, New York) and his Ph.D. in real estate and the built environment at the University of Ulster, (Belfast, Northern Ireland). Hugh Kelly served as the Fordham Real Estate Institute’s director of academic affairs, member of the Executive Advisory Council, curriculum committee chair, and coordinator of the mentorship program from 2017 to 2021. He is now on hiatus to work on his book projects. Previously, he was a founding faculty member of New York University’s Masters Degree in Real Estate program where he taught from 1988 through 2016, attaining the rank of full Clinical Professor.
