Please join ULI Northern New Jersey for an interactive financial workshop geared towards non-financial service providers in the real estate industry. Participants will learn how to access the viability of the economics of a real estate development project using simple but meaningful Excel-based back of the envelope spreadsheet analysis.

The session will be taught by Joshua Kahr, the principal of Kahr Real Estate, a training and consulting company that he founded in 2002 that serves the real estate industry. In 2008, he founded Metropolitan America, a real estate investment company that owns and manages 15 apartment buildings in New Jersey.

Mr. Kahr has taught real estate finance and real estate capital markets for Columbia University’s MS in Real Estate Development program since 2005. He has a Master of Science in Real Estate from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Reed College.

Attendees will learn how to build better financial models in Excel for real estate investment and development. A range of Excel tools and functions will be explored and used in the context of existing models, and key real estate financial concepts will be reviewed. A special emphasis will be made on the construction of models that can be used again and again, and also on how to audit existing models in a time efficient manner.

Examples will be provided for students to take away for their own use after the class.

Attendees taking this workshop should have a basic knowledge of Excel and a firm grasp of financial concepts such as the time value of money, internal rate of return ( IRR), and net present value (NPV). In addition, attendees should bring their own laptop to this session.

AICP CM accreditation currently pending.
